Environment Canada is warning of arctic wind chills as cold as -30 C along the North and Central Coast of B.C. starting in the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Frostbite and hypothermia will be a major concern for the region from Jan. 10 until at least Jan. 13.
Frosty winds in Prince Rupert brought temperatures of -1 C on Jan. 10, though the wind chill made it feel like -8 C during the day. The temperature overnight with windchill was expected to reach a chilly -18 C.
This afternoon will see temperatures plummet, with a low of -23 C with windchill.
Environment Canada warns that exposure to such cold weather, even for minutes, could lead to hypothermia and frostbite.
The warnings on the North Coast are part of emerging cold fronts across large parts of B.C.
