WATCH: Charles Hays Secondary students switch it up at Freaky Friday

CHSS put on their annual musical at the Lester Centre of the Arts

The Lester Centre of the Arts was jammed packed during the weekend as the community gathered to watch their kids in Charles Hays Secondary’s annual musical.

The musical opens with Ellie Blake, played by Serena Wolfe, sharing with the audience the worst 24 hours of her life. First off her mom, Katherine Blake, who was played by Hannah Lindenblatt, is getting married to Mike (David Mooers) who Ellie thinks is too overbearing.

To make things worse she has an annoying little brother Fletcher, played by elementary schooler Sawyer Wiwcharuk. The day of her mom’s wedding is also the day of the school’s big scavenger hunt, where Ellie’s crush Adam (Corbyn Basso) is set to be master of the event.

Of course nothing is more important than attending a high school event at Ellie’s age but her mom forbids it because of course nothing is more important than her wedding day.

A big confrontation leads to some strange magic wielded through an hourglass and the two women switch places. At this point Horne is playing the character of Katherine in Ellie’s body and Lindenblatt takes on the role of immature teenager Ellie in Katherine’s body. Over the course of the play, as mom and daughter learn what it is like to live in each others shoes, the audience quickly learns that Prince Rupert’s kids are full of talent.
