The conference space at the Highliner Inn was packed with music lovers on May 29 as the Prince Rupert Rotary Choir presented the 21st annual Sweet Serenade concert.

This Saturday the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir will be delighting the ears of its audience members at the Lester Centre of the Arts where the group will be kicking off their first ever Northern BC tour.

Last week students from Charles Hays Secondary School and Prince Rupert Secondary School joined together to put on a talent show showcasing the ability students from both schools possess, while at the same time raising over $1,200 for Red Cross to assist the victims of the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that affected Japan.

A number of young musicians will be taking to the stage this Saturday night, as the students of two musical schools in town come together to benefit the Lester Centre of the Arts.

Author Michael Curnes, now dividing his time between Prince Rupert and Vancouver, said creating the first line of a novel is one of the first four steps he takes when he’s writing a book.

North Coast alternative rock band Latex Nightmare has recently returned to Prince Rupert after a two-week journey around the province where the boys played multiple shows and recorded material for their first album.

Over the weekend, the PRSS Drama Department hosted Dessert Theatre at the Lester Centre of the Arts where people attending enjoyed hilarious plays and delicious desserts.

On April 16, the Prince Rupert Community Arts Council and Joe Viscount presented the Spring Band Blast where local youth bands had the opportunity to show off their skills at the Ceremonial Room at the Museum of Northern B.C. Four youth bands performed.

The Prince Rupert Community Arts Council celebrated Arts & Culture Week with several activities last week including First Tracks – Pioneering and Writing. Beverly Pilfold was one of 12 local writers who entered a writing competition held by the arts council and participated in a reading held at Cowpuccino’s on April 13.
