Terrace bounces Rupert from first to third place with CIHL double-header sweep

The River Kings beat Prince Rupert 4-1 in Terrace and 6-1 in Rupert Jan. 5 and 6

The Prince Rupert Rampage succumbed to the Terrace River Kings twice over the weekend of Jan. 6, with the Rampage losing 4-1 away and 6-1 at home, disrupting the team’s perfect record at the Jim Ciccone Arena.

After a holiday break to the CIHL season, the Rampage’s disastrous double-header sees the team slip to third place in the west division, two points behind the River Kings and the Hazelton Wolverines.

The Rampage was easily dismantled by the River Kings on Jan. 5, losing 4-1 in their neighbour’s barn.

However, the team had the chance to avenge the loss and extend their perfect home record when the River Kings visited the Jim Ciccone Arena the following evening on Jan. 6.

Justin Brand scored his first goal of the season in the first period, giving the Rampage the advantage at the end of the frame.

The River Kings responded with three goals in the second period, silencing the Jim Ciccone Arena. Rampage forward Tyler Halliday and River Kings forward Corbin Legros were ejected for fighting misconducts in a chippy game where 32 penalties were handed out.

After attempting to stage a comeback in the third period, the Rampage were eventually swamped by the River Kings’ potent offence, who put another three past Rampage goalie Kieran Sharpe to finish the game at 6-1.

The Kitimat Ice Demons visit Prince Rupert on Jan. 13, giving the Rampage the opportunity to get back to winning ways.
