The Prince Rupert Skating Club (PRSC) hosted its West Area Jamboree this weekend, to much success.
“The whole point of this event is to make it so that really little guys can compete. The way competitions have gone, it’s harder for them to enter a lot of events so little guys that are four-years-old can come out, do a couple spins, get a medal and go home happy,” said Sheri Pringle, coach of PRSC.
There were 84 skaters that took part in the event, from Terrace, Kitimat, Smithers, Hazelton and Prince Rupert. Skaters participated in events for solos, elements and more throughout the weekend.
Pulling out the victory in cumulative points was the blue team. The way the event is set up is skaters from each different skating club are mixed onto four different teams and the team gets points anytime skaters win an event.
“The idea is a team-building thing, so Prince Rupert kids will meet kids from Smithers and so on,” Pringle said.
The coach said she’s just really happy to see a lot of younger kids out and hopes that catches on.
