Hockey players from Charles Hays Secondary School and Prince Rupert Secondary School will be facing off against one another in the Grad Hockey Game this Friday, April 1, working together for a common goal; having a graduation celebration they’ll always remember.

The team members and coaches have just recently been named this weekend. Ron German will be coaching the CHSS boys, and Jerry Kurka will be the PRSS boys’ coach. Both teams are currently preparing for the last hockey game the two high schools will ever play against one another before PRSS is converted into a middle school.

CHSS hockey team members had their first practice on Monday evening, where the team got familiar with one another and ran drills, and PRSS has been preparing for the game by holding an early morning practice earlier this week, as well as a practice to be held today. All students taking part in the game must be registered in the Minor Hockey  Association.

“It should be a pretty interesting game,” said CHSS team coach, Ron German.

On top of the game, there will be more fundraising events taking place on Friday, including a loonie stick draw, puck toss, and 50/50.

Also, there will be a cheerleading contest going on between both of the schools as well as a skills competition for graduating students only.

Parents of graduating students put on the annual game to help raise funds to go towards grad celebrations like prom, and the prizes that are given away at prom.

The puck drops at six p.m. Tickets are available at the door.
