Midgets faulter in tourney

Hosting teams from Terrace and Smithers, the home team lost all four of its games to finish third.

It wasn’t the best outcome for the Midget House Seawolves in its home tournament this past weekend.

Hosting teams from Terrace and Smithers, the home team lost all four of its games to finish third.

“I thought we got off to a little bit of a slow start this weekend, but every game progressed as we got better,” coach Rick Fudger said.

After losing 4-1 and 6-2 to Smithers, and 5-2 to Terrace, the Seawolves rallied from 4-0 down in its final game against Terrace. Fudger called it the best game of the tournament.

“We were down 4-0 and came back. We had some good talks in the dressing room and a little bit more positive play on the ice resulted in the comeback,” he said.

The Seawolves came back to within 4-3, but lost the game 5-4 in the end. Still, the coach was happy with how the team improved through the weekend.

“As the games went on, they just kind of came together more as a team and gelled a little bit more together,” he said.

Fudger was especially happy with his captain, Liam Quane

“He’s a good leader on the bench. He talks to everyone, good communication,” he said.

Quane was named player of the game in the final game against Terrace.

Leading the scoring charge for the Seawolves was Teryn Archer and Vish Sekhon with five and fours goals a piece in the tournament, respectively. The pair provided all of the goals for Rupert.

Chipping in with assists were Saige Acker, Quane, Hunter Wiley, Brittany Waite and Akemi Storey.

Brayden Ferguson and Kaiya Storey manned the net for the Seawolves. Fudger was happy with their play.

“They don’t get down if they’re down in a game so goaltending is good that way,” he said.
