McMeekin, DeMille and Riesens golden, lead Rapids to podium

Prince Rupert Amateur Swim Club (PRASC) returned from the Terrace swim meet with seven medals and many other successes.

More than 20 Rupert swimmers made the trip and all found some form of success at the Points North Development Invitational Swim Meet from Feb. 25-26.

Prince Rupert won two of the three 14 and over boys age group medals, as Jarred McMeekin won the gold aggregate, and Kobi Franes won bronze, his first-ever aggregate medal.

Natalie DeMille, 12, won the gold aggregate in the 13 and under age group, Malcolm Dolan took home the silver aggregate in the 11 and under age group, eight-year-old Fiona Riesen won the gold in the 9 and under girls age group, Iona Riesen won the gold in the 11 and under girls group, and Magnus Veldman, 9, won the silver aggregate in the 9 and under boys age group.

Several other swimmers also found success. Heidi Bellis, 8, participated in her first regional swim meet. She secured best times in all five of her races. Alli Daniele won the 11 and under 25 fly and Annabelle DeMille won the 9 and under 25 butterfly.

Isaac Dolan, fresh off a bronze medal at the Swim BC AA championships in Chilliwack, won the 100 backstroke, and achieved his third AAA time in the 200 backstroke (2:37.25), qualifying him for Swim BC’s AAA championships in Kamloops this summer.

Peter Joubert, 9, won the 100 back and 50 breast, Lucas Mayer won the 100 breaststroke and set new A times in 100 breast and 200 IM, Lily McDonald won the 25 free and 25 back, and swam to best times in all six of her individual races, and Chase McWilliams won the 25 backstroke.

Other swimmers who didn’t win medals or races, but set personal times or placed in the top three included Carter Brown, Taia Brown, Finn de la Nuez, Ryder Gerritsen, Josh Joubert, Sharmonie Pedersen, Ethan Toye, Hannah Toye and Bailey Ward.
