Johnson wins Marine Bonspiel

Terrace’s Jordan Johnson rink captured the 66th edition of the Prince Rupert Curling Club’s Men’s Marine Bonspiel on Sunday.

Twenty-seven teams hit the ice on Friday with hopes of making it to Sundays four finals were held.

“All the teams were eager to have a go at the longest-running bonspiel in the northwest,” Danny Dawson said.

The Johnson rink of Johnson, Kevin Doddridge, Jarrid Dorsey and Codey Latimer won the A Event final.

In the B Final, the John Evans team, also from Terrace, took the top spot. Evans’ team included lead Don Giddings, second Danny Fisher and third Andrew Simpson. The C Final winner was the Rupert team of Jamie Malthus, Steve Eso, Paul Eisenhauer and Travis Bernhardt.

In the D Final, the Prince Rupert team of Flo Peloquin, Corey Kitchen, Greg Campbell and skip Pierre LaFrance took the title.

Season league play will wrap up this week on Wednesday and Friday night.

“Although bonspiels are finished for us here in Rupert, we do have a number of teams heading up to Terrace for their year-end spiel, the Loggers. We also have one team making the journey to Prince George for the Kelly Cup at the beginning of April,” Dawson said.
