Prince Rupert’s downtown and waterfront were the stages of the 19th Annual Jim Ciccone Memorial 3-on-3 BasketaballChallenge as young ballers from both the city and surrounding areas came to compete in what has become an annual tradition.

“It went pretty well,” said event organizer Lanny Wilson. “The kids have been great and respectful, and it’s been fun to watch kids play who have such skill.”

The competition featured 56 players on 14 teams in four different divisions. Games began Saturday, June 10 on Third Avenue as teams battled to make it to the second day of the tournament. Wilson said the atmosphere was intense as both athletes and spectators were fully engaged in the competition.

“They’ve come to expect this,” Wilson said. “We had a few run-ins with parents, but they’re basketball crazy here so the crowd gets just as into it as their kids do.”

The Urban Indians beat the Synergy Storm junior team in the 12-13 age divison.

The Tune Squad defeated the Running Rebels2 in the 14-year-old di ision.

The Ballers took the 15-16 age division beating the All Stars.

Finally, the Natives Plus One team defeated the Rupert Rough Riders squad in the men’s division.
