In Our Opinion: Walkin' the walk, now talkin' the talk

The collective sigh of relief you heard last week was the announcement of AltaGas green-lighting its propane terminal on Ridley Island.

Finally, North Coasters are seeing something come of the endless consultations, negotiations and open houses that have taken place over the past few years in this city.

In what seemed like a sprint compared to other industry marathons, AltaGas proposed, received certification and gave its positive final investment decision to build and operate a propane export terminal on Ridley Island, all in just less than a year.

Those saying it couldn’t be done can close their gaping jaws after a thorough, sanctioned environmental assessment was performed, and concluded. Its swiftness in no way detracts from how close of a microscopic lens the proponent and the government took to the (already industrialized) site.

With DP World completing its Fairview Terminal expansion this year and now the AltaGas project, 2017 is beginning to look like it just might be a great year.
