In Our Opinion: Happy anniversary

Built in a time when provincial funds were far more free-flowing, the Lester Centre has brought many Rupertites countless happy memories

Reading through the B-section in this week’s Northern View, you’ll find a common thread through every story; people are just ecstatic that a space like the Lester Centre of the Arts exists in this town.

Built in a time when provincial funds were far more free-flowing for the arts, the Lester Centre has brought many Rupertites countless happy memories.

Whether that be seeing your child perform on stage for the very first time, watching students from the high school belt out a tune from a well-known musical, or see a travelling ballet company, the Lester Centre is a place where magic happens.

“Lucky” is a word to describe the residents on the North Coast that have this centre to use, but “creative” is an even better one for the many arts-driven Rupertites that have appeared on stage. It’s the people that have made the space come alive and every audience member knows there’s no shortage of talent in Rupert.
