March 6, 1941 - March 14, 2021
Bill was born in Prince Rupert March 6, 1941. He lived and worked here all his life except for his travels around the world and to warm climates in the winter. Bill loved adventure. He took full advantage of the freedom his seasonal employment in the fishing industry offered to explore the deserts of California, Arizona and Baja with his beloved companion, Nancy.
During the fishing season, Bill enjoyed working and the company of the people with whom he worked. He had a smile for everyone and never an unkind word.
When Bill suggested going somewhere or doing something it was always fun. Camping, hiking, canoeing or cross-country skiing in northern BC, exploring desert parks and Baja beaches, climbing mountains and dunes, swimming in ocean water and snorkelling in beautiful bays, riding his off-road motorcycle along mountain ridges and to ranchos and canyons, and riding his highway bike along desert highways, were everyday activities.
Bill had a family of friends at home and everywhere he travelled. He liked people and accepted everyone as they were. One of his favourite pastimes was sitting around a kitchen table or picnic table with people he cared about having good conversations, laughter, ice cream or a cold beer.
Bill was predeceased by his mother and father, Betty and Erling Pedersen, his brother, Robert, and his sister-in-law, Anita. He was loved and will be dearly missed by his brother, Roy, his sister-in-law, Terry, nephews and nieces: Lorne, Karen, Lynne, Steve, Craig and Andrea, and by his adoptive family: Nancy Robertson, her children, Shirley and Clint as well as grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Allison and Ian.
For young people he was a fun adult. He gave bear hugs, taught crib, encouraged conversation, engineered the best paper airplanes, gave driving lessons and fixed anything broken. Memories of his parents, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins were dear to him and brought much pleasure in his final years. We will all miss his kind and considerate ways and his unique outlook on life.
Bill died March 14, 2021 in the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital. Thank you Dr. John Fawell, all the staff at PRRH, and Bill's guardian angels, our Community Nurses, for your care & support over the past five years.
