July 24, 1943 - July 23, 2024

In loving memory ~

Sherril Lee Murray (née Cook), beloved wife of Don Murray, passed away surrounded by her family, in her Surrey home on 23 July 2024 at the age of 80.

Sherril was born in Windsor, Ontario on 24 July 1943 and moved as a young girl, together with her younger sister Leslee and parents, George and Ferna to Prince Rupert, BC. Sherril grew up in the apartment above her father's jewelry store on 3rd Ave West. She had many friends and could often be found hanging out at Macey's Cafe with the gang.

Sherril graduated from Crofton House School, where she boarded for her high school years. Although she had pilot aspirations, they weren't training women to be pilots in those days so she went on to earn a Nursing diploma in Sarina, Ontario. Sherril was a kind and compassionate nurse and had many fond memories of her time working in the hospital. On 5 November 1966, Sherril married her soulmate, Don Murray, and between 1969 and 1972 they had two children. Being the wife of an ambitious, hard-working commercial fisherman while raising young children in Prince Rupert was not without its challenges, but Sherril was an indomitable character and not only rose to the occasion but also lent a hand to others who needed support. Even in tough times her children never went without, and were raised in a home with love and laughter. In 1988 the family relocated to the lower mainland where she would live happily for the rest of her life.

Sherril was a bona fide lover of animals, and was most content with a feline companion by her side. She and Don enjoyed many adventures, visiting Africa, Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. Sherril was an excellent cook, trying new recipes as often as she could. They spent their winters in Arizona where Sherril loved to shop, golf and entertain friends. Sherril was happiest being a Nana and always looked for great adventures to share with her grandchildren.

Sherril was a beautiful, vibrant woman with grace and class, seldom seen anymore. She had a wonderful sense of humour and a unique and infectious laugh that encouraged others to share in her joy. Sherril always had a deep sense of empathy and kindness that she extended to those in need. Her ability to balance resilience with compassion made her a formidable yet caring presence in the lives of those around her. She left a positive mark and touched the lives of so many people. In her final years, Sherril suffered from a broken hip, and later congestive heart failure made her weak and frail. Despite this, she was making friends in their Nico Wynd community right up to the end of her days.

Sherril is survived by her two children Suzanne Radchenko (Paul), Brendan Murray (Andrea), four grandchildren (Sofia, Madelyn, Bianca and Avery), her sister Leslee Cameron (Doug) and an extended family. Sherril was a devoted wife, a loving mother, an adored Nana and a caring sister. She was deeply loved by many, and will never be forgotten.

The family is grateful to Genevieve for being a caregiver and friend to Sherril in the last two years of her life. Her help enabled Sherril to remain in the comfort of her own home until the end.

There will be a celebration of Sherril's life from noon to 4pm on Sunday, 27th October upstairs at the Nico Wynd Golf Course, 3601 Nico Wynd Drive. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations made to the Surrey SPCA (https://spca.bc.ca/donations/make-a-donation/)

Arrangements entrusted to Victory Park Funeral Home.
