September 30, 1947 - July 13, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Sandra Lynn de Hoog. She passed away quietly in her sleep in the early hours of Saturday, July 13, 2019. The daughter of Ivan Patrick and Lillian Ellen Murphy, she was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 30, 1947. Before the age of 2, her family relocated to Victoria, BC where she remained until moving to Prince Rupert, BC in December of 2017.
She is survived by her step-mother Grace, her siblings Patricia, Brian (Linda) and Wayne (Heather), her daughter Angela and son-in-law Mike, her son Ian and daughter-in-law Tanya, as well as her three grandchildren Elija, Rowan and Jonas, whom she loved dearly. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, in-laws, and step-siblings.
Sandi was a woman of love and friendship, as many would attest. She gave freely of what she was able to and loved deeply. Quick with a warm smile, she was always ready to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger, and as a result, she nurtured many friendships. She was just as happy to listen as she was to share, and her cares and concerns for others often outweighed her own. She loved the ocean and all things outdoors, and she was an amazing gardener. In her spare time, she spent many hours sitting on her deck or looking out the window at whatever nature had to offer. She was particularly fond of hummingbirds, deer, squirrels, and more recently, the vast number of eagles flying overhead in Prince Rupert.
A service is scheduled for 1:30 pm on Friday, August 16, 2019 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Prince Rupert at 460 McBride Street. The service will be followed by an informal gathering of family and friends at the home of Barb and Bob Gruber.
