It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Russel Wylie at the age of 70 years. Russel had heart complications and passed away peacefully at Moog Hospice House in Penticton with his daughter Taylor beside him. He is survived by his daughter Taylor; stepson, Tristan; siblings, Denise (Gordon), Tom (Evelyn) and Scott (Kim) and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Donna and his parents (Bob and Barbara Wylie)
Russel was born and raised in Masset, B.C. He was the oldest of four children. During his teen years he attended junior high school in Prince Rupert and Vancouver for high school. He continued onto UBC where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He co-owned and operated a moped business in Hawaii for a short time after graduating and then returned to Masset to begin his commercial fishing career alongside his father and brothers. He enjoyed a west coast lifestyle for many years as the skipper of two different seiners; the Tow Hill and the Donna Maria.
Russel met Donna in Masset and they were married in 1990. They had one daughter and when she was nine, they decided to move to Penticton. Although Russel was retired, he decided to try his hand at real estate and for a few years worked as a Remax agent. Russel, Donna and Taylor enjoyed several homes in the Okanagan. They lived near Naramata, then on an acreage in Oliver and finally bought a lovely home in Kaleden overlooking Skaha Lake. There they enjoyed raising their daughter Taylor and many home pets.
Russel was an avid reader of biographies and enjoyed reading the daily newspapers. He could always be trusted to have the most to up to date information on any current event. He was a dedicated hockey fan of the Penticton Vees and bought season tickets each year. After Donna passed, Russel, along with his dog Boomer, could be seen most days driving through the outlying areas of the Okanagan exploring new routes and watching for wildlife. Our heartfelt gratitude is sent to Dr. Phillips for his dedicated service of twenty-one years as Russel's doctor and to all the medical and support staff at the Pentiction Hospital as well as to Dr. Bannerman and the compassionate staff at the Moog & Friends Hospice House. They were all truly outstanding during these trying times. Russel will be deeply missed and remembered by his friends and family. A celebration of life will be held during the summer of 2022.
