June 20, 1941 – January 5, 2019
Mike passed away quickly and peacefully Friday morning sitting in his favourite chair at home in Oona River. He is predeceased by his mother Thelma Hansen, father Myles Lemon, his stepfather Axel Hansen, his sister Patsy Schmidt and nephew Steven Schmidt.
Mike is survived by his lifelong partner Jan Lemon, daughter Pam Lemon (Des Shearing), son Daniel Lemon (Kristina Smythe), grandchildren Teagan and Keelan Lemon-Shearing, brother-in-law McKay Innes and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was a basketball player and fisherman. He long lined, gill netted salmon and herring, and crabbed, but his true passion was his years as a West Coast troller. He travelled from the Gulf of Alaska to the Gulf of Georgia following the fishing lifestyle. In the winter months he spent many years hand logging and enjoying his family and friends. He loved to be either on the ocean or at Oona River.
A service will be held at the United Church on February 2, 2019 at 2 pm. A celebration of life will follow at the Crest Hotel at 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Mike Lemon Scholarship Fund” that will be set up at Northern Savings Credit Union. Mike played basketball as a Rainmaker. The family would like to provide a bursary for a graduating student who has also played basketball for the Rainmakers and wishes to purse post-secondary education.
