October 27, 1953 - April 9, 2021
After a short but well fought battle with brain cancer in the early morning of April 9 Masset lost a very fine lady. With her infectious smile and her heart of gold. She left a lasting impression on all who met her.
Mary was born and raised in Prince Rupert and after graduation worked at the Prince Rupert Fisherman's Coop Plant along with her father and uncles. At the age of 26 and after a brief courtship I convinced her to marry me and move to Masset or what is known as Haida Gwaii for the next 42 years.
Mary's passions in life were family, friends, children, senior citizens, long walks on north beach picking agates along with other treasures and of course cruises with her lady friends.
Mary was affectionately known as the 'cookie lady' by all the young children stopping by the co-op bakery/deli for a treat where she remained a loyal employee for the past 33 years.
She was a volunteer extraordinaire involved with most volunteer organizations in Masset, too many to list. She was always quick to jump in when help was needed. Mary was also a proud supporter of our veterans and enlisted personnel. Serving 2 terms as President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 244 in Masset, also many years on the Executive. She spent approximately 25 years helping put on steak, burger nights and fish fries bringing the people of Masset together.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Antonio and Giulia Di Leta and her sister Anna Relkov (Wally). Survived by her brother Aldo (Giovanna), Her loving husband of 42 years Alan, son Christopher and her pride and joy 2 grandsons Julius and Carter.
Cremation has taken place, she will be laid to rest at her parents side in the Prince George Municipal Cemetery at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held in Masset at a later date when covid restrictions allow us to gather.
Rest in peace my dear your work is done here now. Till we meet again.
A special thank you to Dr Miller and staff at The Prince George Cancer Centre. The wonderful Doctors and staff at Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital (Masset) who cared for her with such care and compassion amidst the covid pandemic. You are all very special people. To Father Terry Brock for providing us with strength and guidance to carry on, and to all our friends, family and associates for their love and support during this difficult time.
