Libert Kuntze

Libert Kuntze was born the sixth of nine children in Prassen (German province of East Prussia). The Kuntze home was in Gumbinnen, what is now modern Gusev, near Königsberg (Kaliningrad, Russia).

In 1956, Libert immigrated to Canada, landing at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He eventually arrived in British Columbia, finding work at Copper Mountain near Princeton, as well as Britannia Beach. He subsequently found work in a pulp mill in the remote town of Ocean Falls, and in 1967 at the Skeena Pulp operation in Port Edward, near Prince Rupert, where he worked until his retirement in 1993.

In 1969, Libert married Britta Kuntze (née Hintze) in Wienhausen, Germany. Together, they built a home in Port Edward, where they lived until 1994. Libert spent most of his retirement in Qualicum Beach, together with his beloved wife Britta.

In 2011, Libert and Britta moved to Victoria.

Libert passed away peacefully in Victoria on the 22nd of May, 2016 at the age of 85.

He is survived by his wife Britta, two sons Andreas and Johann, their wives Rosella Ng and Julie Bonham Kuntze and grandchildren Kyla, Mattias and Isabella. He is also survived by his identical triplet brother Henry, his triple sister Trine, and his other remaining siblings, Marie and Christine.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Victoria, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 18th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 3787 Cedar Hill Road, Victoria, BC V8P 3Z4.
