In Loving Memory ~
It is with deep sadness that the Smith Family announces the passing of Leonard at the age of 86 on May 15, 2023.
He was predeceased by his parents, Chappy and Yvonne Smith, and his daughter, Elaine Gladstone.
Leonard will be sorely missed by his children, Brian, Kevin (Susan), Lianne (Richard), and Danik. His sister Voni (Mike) and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephew, niece and a multitude of good friends
Leonard was born in Faust, Alberta, on October 3, 1936. Leonard worked together with his dad, Chappy, to become a very successful fisherman. In retirement, he loved spending time on his fishing boat, the Eastview, and puttering around his ranch in Fort Fraser.
Leonard was bigger than life, and you always knew when he entered a room. He had a great sense of humour and always had a story or joke to tell. After his stroke, he was never without his cell phone and loved to share funny videos and photos of the things he loved the most. Leonard would never back down from a competitive game of crib and more recently, 'UP THE RIVER'. He didn't like to lose and would show no mercy to whomever he played.
Leonard was very generous to both family and friends, often to those who just needed a helping hand. He will be missed dearly.
Leonard's family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of both Prince Rupert Regional Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital for their kindness and compassion during his brief illness.
No service is planned at this time. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for all the kind thoughts, words, and actions from friends near and far.
If desired, donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
