On August 24, 2023, Leonard Leo Ropchan passed away at the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Caroline.
Leonard was born in Yellowknife, NWT and moved to Edmonton, Alberta in his first year. He graduated from Victoria Composite High School where he played basketball and football. The football team won the city championships two years running when he played on the first string. He always loved sports and took up fishing in Prince Rupert.
Leonard moved to Prince Rupert in 1972 and worked at the pulp mill until it closed. He was active on the contract committee of the Union. He also helped fellow workers with pension problems after the mill closed.
Upon retirement his greatest joy was meeting daily with his two coffee groups.
He is sorely missed.
