Passed away peacefully at the Acropolis Manor with his children by his side.
Len was born in Prince Rupert, his parents David and Bertha (Closter) Hadland. He spent his early years at Oona River, B.C. and later moved to Dodge Cove on Digby Island.
During WW2 the Army rented property from the family and Len got to know the soldiers and spent a lot of time with them. He worked in the small sawmill his father owned, first in Oona River and then at Dodge Cove as well as in Pero, B.C. He worked at Wahl's boat works building gillnetters for a time.
In1949 he ran the planer for the Pulp Mill construction at Watson Island. He fished with his boat, the Roald, and then at the Prince Rupert Dry Dock repairing boats and large ships.
In 1953, he answered a want ad for the Prince Rupert Daily News to run the printing press. He worked there for 44 years. They say "he kept the cleanest press in all of Canada". In his free time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing, doing woodworking in his basement and walking his dog Keena.
Len met the love of his life, Betty Milton, in Prince Rupert and they were married September 3, 1949.
He is survived by his children Brian (Carol), Trudy (Fred) Hutchings, Kevin Hadland, grandchildren Wendy (Al) Mori, Heather (Chad) Dudoward, Tiffany Hutchings, Travis (Dannycia) Hutchings, James and Jeremy Hadland, great-grandchildren Allie and Carrie Dudoward, Hana and Daniel Mori, Zoey Hadland-Martinson, and his brother Ron Hadland and sisters Linda (Bennett) and Dolly (Lang).
He is predeceased by his mother and father, his loving wife Betty, brother Arnold and sisters Violet, Anita and Yvonne.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and care aides at the Acropolis Manor for the love and care of Dad. He will be remembered for his sense of humour and his big smile.
There will be no service due to covid restrictions. The family will be holding a private memorial at a later date.
Len always quoted: "The good guys have left for home."
