It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larry David Stava, much loved father, husband, brother and friend. Following a courageous battle with cancer, Larry passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on July 8, 2020. Larry was born in Prince Rupert to Lillie and Gunnar Stava, younger brother to Glenna and Gordon. Larry married Debbie Wright in 1982 and together raised their sons Kyle and Jake, with whom he proudly shared his Norwegian heritage along with his passions for fishing, hunting, music and fast motorcycles.
Larry was a kind person who touched the lives of many.
He had a gift for gab with a quick wit and opinions he was always only too happy to share. He logged many hours fishing the local fishing holes - his excursions often landing many new friends that he would bring home with the day's catch.
He was active in the local music community and will be fondly remembered as a talented musician and a gifted bass player who enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passion for play with young and old alike. As a motorcycle enthusiast, his lifelong passion for bikes began at age 16 when he bought his first Triumph.
Larry worked at varied jobs over the years and always built strong bonds with those he worked with. He worked as a musician in the band Father Time, as a commercial fisherman, as a deckhand at Sabre Marine, in sales at Sears, BC Bearing, and Acklands Grainger. Larry left employment at Bandstra Transport and was grateful for their support.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Lillie and Gunnar, his father- and mother-in-law George and Lori Wright, his brother-in-law Bob Martinson, and his nephew Dan Wright. Larry is lovingly survived by his sons Kyle and Jake and his wife Debbie. Dear brother of Gordon (Deanna) and Glenna and affectionately remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Doctors Coetzee and Croft and extend a special thank you to Jennifer Nelson along with the staff in the cancer care unit for treating him with such care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Larry's honour to the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital Cancer Care Unit.
Due to COVID-19 considerations, events to celebrate Larry's life will take place at a future time.
