August 17, 1933 - October 22, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and Gigi, Joseph Didychuk. He passed away peacefully in Prince Rupert, BC on the morning of October 22,2022.
Joseph was born on August 17,1933 in Toutes Aides, Manitoba to William and Elizabeth Didychuk. He was raised on a farm with six brothers and two sisters. He moved to Prince Rupert to work at Skeena Cellulose as a wood room foreman. It was on a trip home he met the love of his life Eva Remniak, and they were married on July 21, 1968. Joseph worked at Skeena Cellulose for 30 years. Eva and Joe raised their four daughters Donia, Sonia, Tonja, and Tammy. He moved on to become an owner operator of Cab 18 for Skeena Taxi until retirement in 2011.
Joe, known to many as Gigi, was happiest surrounded by his family and good food. In his retirement he loved to help in the kitchen pinching perogies, rolling cabbage rolls or cutting vegetables. He would be seen picking up his grandchildren from school, to and from their activities or having visits in his car. Whether by phone call or drive-by, he was forever checking up on all his family making sure everyone was happy and healthy. You would never have a visit in his home without having him say to you "Have a shot."
Joe's legacy by far was his unconditional love for his family, his devotion to faith, and his generous heart. Not a minute, hour or day would go by where he wasn't thinking about his family. We will miss him dearly and hold on forever to his love.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife Eva, his daughters Donia (Bruce) Deinstadt, Sonia (Scott) Duffus, Tonja (James) Horne, Tammy (Howie) Hedman his grandchildren Jamie (Brittney), Kaylyn (Luc), Kieran (Kelly), Torrye (Leonard), Garrett, Colby (Wyatt), Emily, Selena, Jesse and his great grandchildren Brinley, Kip, Hallie, Emma, Scarlett, Roman, Wyatt and Charlotte. His brothers Mike, Tony, and sister Mary Shewchuk. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Joseph is predeceased by his parents William and Elizabeth Didychuk, his brothers Fred, John, Nick, Bill, and his sister Eve Bruce-Lockhart.
In legacy of Joe's devotion to his faith, donations may be sent to the Annunciation Catholic Church located at 635 5th Ave W, Prince Rupert, BC.
On behalf of Joe's family, we would like to thank all the physicians and nurses at the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital, Father Terry, and Tat Walters for their care and support given to Dad.
