Passed away, surrounded by family, on December 24, 2024, at St Mary's Hospital, in Kitchener ON at the age of 98. Joyce was born in Fort William on February 28, 1926 to Dorothy and Bill Monteith. She became a school teacher and taught in Geraldton and Marathon, in ON, as well as Prince Rupert in BC. She married Robert "Bob" Johnston on August 5, 1947.
She was the beloved wife of the late Robert, who predeceased Joyce in 1997.
Cherished mother of William "Bill" and the late Richard (late Mary).
Loving nanny of Kristen, Rebecca, Pamela, Jeremy, and Austin.
Great nanny of Bethany, Emma, Alex, Katie, and Thomas.
Joyce is predeceased by her siblings Jean (late Bert) and Jack (late Marion).
She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, extended family, and the lives she touched through her teaching.
Thank you to the staff at Highland Place, in Kitchener, and to the 4th floor staff at St. Mary's Hospital for their care and kindness.
In keeping with Joyce's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted by Henry Walser Funeral Home, 519-749-8467. Interment will be held in Thunder Bay at a later date.
