John Richard King died February 3, 2019 after a short illness. John was a long-time resident of Prince Rupert, BC. He and his wife of 53 years, Doreen (Rudderham) raised three children in Rupert: Christopher (Paula), Fiona and Moira. His grandchildren are Hunter, Gryphon and Courtney. His brothers are Donald (Luella; Donna, John, Melanie) and Stuart.
John worked at the reduction plant and in fishing before buying his own troller, the Sunland. He later earned his Skipper's ticket and worked on tugboats before hiring on as a Captain with Pacific Pilotage Authority. He stayed with Pacific Pilotage until his retirement.
John was a Freemason with Tsimpsean Lodge No. 58 and served as Master. He loved hunting, fishing, his kids and grandkids, travelling in his trailer with Doreen, tinkering in the basement, the Internet and having coffee with his buddies. He loved a bargain and a good laugh.
Thanks to Holly Mombourquette (Rudderham) and Tammy Deinstadt for their love and support in Prince George. The family would also like to thank the staff at University Hospital of Northern British Columbia for their excellent, compassionate care and the team at Kordyban Lodge for their warmth and generosity during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage donations to the hospital (www. spiritofthenorth.ca) and the lodge (www.cancer.ca).
