May 18, 1942 - September 26, 2021
In Loving Memory of Jerry Vincent Jonasen who passed away peacefully in Cowichan District Hospital on September 26, 2021 after a battle with lung cancer. He was 79.
Jerry was born in Edson AB on May 18, 1942 and moved with his parents to BC as a young child. Jerry lived in Prince Rupert until he moved to Ladysmith with his family in 1971 to work as a Longshoreman and has always loved living in what he called "paradise on earth."
Jerry is survived by his sister Donna (Sam) Casler; sons: Donald (Everett) and Jerry Jr. (Amy); daughters: Dianna (Nello) Cafariello and Janis (Val) Harris and grandchildren: Matthew, Alexandra, Kirk, Jamie, Justine, Richard, Jazsea, and great-granddaughter Ayla Raven, and many good friends.
Jerry was a loving Father, Brother, Grandpa/Papa, Great Grandpa and Uncle and all his grandkids were his pride and joy.
Jerry was predeceased by his mother Astrid, father Fred, brothers: Donald, Alfie, Arnold, and sister Edith Sundberg.
Jerry retired from Longshoring in 1997 and took great pride in his work and told many funny stories about it over the years. Jerry always took time off work in the summer months to spend time with the family camping, boating and swimming in many beautiful locations on Vancouver Island. Jerry had a corny sense of humour with the best Dad jokes, love of music and his grand-fur-babies: Java, Stormi, and Tyee and will be greatly missed by all.
Our family would like to thank all the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Cowichan Hospital who cared for our Dad during this difficult journey including his family doctor in Ladysmith, Dr. Kilvert.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at Transfer Beach, which was his favourite place to be in the summer months.
Dad lives on in our hearts.
