The family of Jack Chauncey Rudolph of Prince Rupert, B.C., are saddened to announce his passing on August 17, 2023, at the age of 83 years.
Jack will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Gloria; children, Carolyn (Edmond), Nicole (David), Mary-Anne (Brett), and Kathleen (Paul), as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren each of whom is so special.
Jack was predeceased by his parents Chauncey and Cynthia May Rudolph and his siblings Albert, Mary Lou, and Raymond.
Jack was born on December 2, 1939, in Beausejour, Manitoba. The family moved to Prince Rupert when he was three years old. Since that time Jack cultivated a deep love for the town and its community.
Growing up he was an avid basketball player and later a member of Sunrise Grocery Basketball Team. Jack met Gloria in Smithers, B.C., while working for C.N.R. Two months later they married and returned to Prince Rupert.
He was employed by Imperial Oil Bulk Plant for his working life. As a young man, he was a very active Kinsmen member thanks to a special friend, Frank Ratchford. Jack eventually became involved in city politics and served as a city councillor.
Stop Over Grocery, Special Olympics Swim Team coach, P.R.A.S.C., Master Swim coach, Modern Pentathlon coach, Community Policing, Community Futures, Seafarer's Mission and "Jack's Bartending" were all a part of his life.
A strong believer in the value of family, Jack encouraged and supported his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He made sure they knew they were loved.
Jack could always brighten a room with his presence.
He was quick with a joke, a word of support and a helping hand.
He made all feel welcome, he made all feel heard.
He simply made things better.
The family would like to thank Dr. Erasmus and the staff and residents of Acropolis Manor for their care and compassion.
In honour of Jack's wishes, a private service for the family will be held.
