Honourable Mr. Justice

Richard (Dick) Thomas Albert Low

July 30, 1940 - August 15, 2014

With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, the Honourable Mr. Justice Richard (Dick) Thomas Albert Low, at age 74, on August 15, 2014, following a stroke.

His love for the law was exceeded only by his love for his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Bruce and Laura (née Thomson), and brother Larry Low. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Gail (née Boehler); son Oliver Low; daughter Meredith Low (Adam Sadowski) and granddaughters Lily and Ruby Sadowski; son Scott Low (Deborah Copeman) and grandsons Finley and Spenser Low; cousin Arlee Gale; along with many cherished family, friends and

colleagues.

Dick was born in Rock Bay, British Columbia on July 30, 1940 and received his law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1964. Having articled with Crease & Company in Victoria, he was called to the bar in 1965. He then moved to Prince George, where he practiced with the firms of Cashman, Hope, Heinrich & Co and then Wilson, King & Company.

At the time of his passing, he was the longest-serving federally-appointed judge

sitting in Canada. Dick was appointed to the County Court of Prince Rupert in 1977, to the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1990, and finally to the Court of Appeal in 2000.

Dick will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, quick mind, and generous spirit toward others.

A service and reception will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2:00 PM, at West

Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Ave., West Vancouver. In lieu of

flowers a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC would be appreciated. We would also like to express our gratitude to the staff of the neurology floor at Lion’s Gate Hospital, whose care was both skilled and compassionate. To sign the book of
