In loving memory ~
Hilda Husoy (neé Potterton) passed away on the morning of August 21st. She was 93 years old. She was born in Stewart, BC, and lived most of her life in the north.
She was the daughter of Phoebe and Lance (L.A.N.) Potterton, who served the north with the Prince Rupert Police, the BC Police, and the RCMP. Hilda lived in Stewart, Smithers, Ocean Falls, and Prince Rupert. Hilda herself also served the north: she was an exemplary public servant with the Government Agent's Office, the Department of Highways, and the Prince Rupert Visitor's Bureau; she was also a pillar of her church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Foster Husoy, who also served the north in various roles with cooperatives, unions, associations, municipal and federal governments, etc. She was also predeceased by her older sister, Jessie Koughan, wife of Bill Koughan. Hilda is survived by her eldest sister Joan Robinson, her sons, Lance and John, her daughter-in-law, Shelley Reid, and her grandchildren, Miles and Joanna.
Hilda was bright, beautiful and talented. She was also kind, generous and considerate to a fault. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral and no memorial gathering. There is sadness for those who loved her; she is and will continue to be missed. She herself, however, is at peace, and given her intense pragmatic stoicism, a stiff-upper-lip and no-fuss mentality, an attitude maintained right to the end, she would want people to be happy for her in this peace. So if you knew her, remember her fondly and often but with only a tinge of sadness for her passing. She was fortunate. She lived a good life.
It was hard to choose an image to remember Hilda by. There are so many. But an image of her in her youth has been chosen—bright, alive, energetic, and full of promise—it is how we all would like to be remembered.
