In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that the family of Joe Haugan announce his passing.
Joe had a big heart and an even bigger laugh. You always knew he was nearby when you heard that laugh. He is remembered as a kind, charismatic, and generous man who loved to tell stories and to be with family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Jean (nee Mearns), children; Linda Hansen (Bruce), John Philippson (Tina), Marlene McIntyre, Brad Haugan (Twylla) and Druanne Haugan (Ted). Papa Joe is fondly remembered and missed by grandchildren; Chris, Shane, Jason, Katrina, Nicole, Kendal, Matthew, Mekaela, Jordan, Blake, Brooke & Kirsti, as well as eight great- grandchildren and his sister Shirley Clarke (Bill). He delighted in all the young people in his life. Each of you held your own special place in his heart and he was very proud of all of you.
Joe was predeceased by parents Sam and Gert Haugan, and brothers Raymond (Nick), Howard and John. He was born in Prince Rupert, BC, was a legendary fisherman, fishing on both west and east coasts of Canada. Joe was also an accomplished golfer and he and Jean travelled to many interesting places such as Japan, Africa, South America, Mexico, Hawaii and most recently Cuba in 2016. He was also known to have a great memory and was pretty darn good at cards.
Our family would like to thank the many friends and family for all their love and support. We would also like to extend a special thank you for the care and compassion provided by our private caregiving team, especially Kimberly and Joliene, as well as the Berwick Comox staff and Dr. Matthew Robertson.
A celebration of life will be held at Crown Isle Golf Club in Courtenay, BC from 12:30pm to 3:30pm on April 23rd, 2022.
