In Loving Memory ~
Gary Woodhead, beloved husband of Lynne Woodhead, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2024. He was a caring, loving, giving man who stayed true to old-fashioned values. Intelligent and vibrant, Gary wholeheartedly enjoyed life and his family. He had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His heart was full of love, and he always saw the silver lining in any situation.
Born on September 26, 1941, in Moncton, NB to Lillian and Vincent Woodhead, he grew up in Saskatoon. Gary first came to BC when he was 12 and knew he would come back when he discovered his grandmother could walk down the hill in White Rock and swim in the ocean. After graduation, he rode his motorcycle to BC where he found work logging, then fishing, which brought him to Prince Rupert.
He married Myrtle Wing, and they had five children: Nadean Blais (Dave), Tracey Gutierrez (Michael), Robin Woodhead (Rhona), Darcey Woodhead and Charlene Woodhead.
When he wasn't fishing, Gary worked at any job he could find and went hunting every fall, for the last 40 years at Alastair Lake. He got his pilot's license at age 40, after his neighbour, Ken Cote, offered him a share in C-FEIU, a little red Cessna 170 floatplane.
Gary met Lynne in 1988 and moved to Hunts Inlet. They were married in 1993 and had a daughter, Sandy Woodhead. Gary was a much-loved father to his six children and a much-loved stepfather to Karen Hedquist (Terry), Todd Hedquist (Tanya) and Shannon Hooper (Chad).
Gary is also survived by his siblings Nancy Jongeneel (Jack), Glen Woodhead (Lynda), Gail Foreman (Doug) and Ray Woodhead, by his 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by his many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held at a date yet to be determined.
