August 3, 1954 - February 16, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don Van Hulle on February 16, 2022, at the age of 67. He went peacefully, albeit much too soon, but without complaint. He was ready, his body was tired, the cancer had finally taken its toll. Those of you who knew Don throughout his illustrious 40 year career with Farwest Bus Lines in Prince Rupert will have to agree, he was indeed a trouper!
Don was predeceased by the love of his life, wife Carol in 2016, his Mom, Faye Rice in 2007, and his older sister Judy in 1984. He will be forever loved and missed by his son Kirk (Hannah Papish) and his much treasured grandson, Hudson.
He also leaves behind brother Doug (Deanna) Van Hulle of Terrace B.C.; sisters Sharon (Ross) McNish and Susan (Rick) Miles, both of Prince Rupert B.C.; nieces Kim Cey and family of Kelowna B.C. and Lisa Linteris and family of Terrace B.C., nephew Devin Van Hulle also of Terrace plus extended family and countless friends.
Don was born August 3, 1954 in Chilliwack B.C. His first home was in Hope B.C. and the rest of his growing up years were spent in various parts of B.C. and Alberta. In the winter of 1981, at the age of 25, Don beat a hasty retreat from Edmonton, landing on his sister Sharons' doorstep.
Sharon was an integral part in Don gaining meaningful employment with Farwest Bus Lines, where he remained for 40 years, becoming THE senior driver, finally handing over his keys early last year. With his health declining and Kirk taking on a job in Kitimat, he moved with them and spent his last summer sitting on the riverbank, rod in hand. We hope he and Carol have found a riverbank where the suns shines eternal, and the fish are aplenty!
Special thanks to Dr. Croft in Prince Rupert who saw him through his bout with esophageal cancer in 2000. Thanks also to Dr. McLeod and hospital staff in Kitimat for their care this past year, and the BC Cancer doctors and staff for their care and assistance. Lastly, a very special thank-you to Hannah's folks, Roger and Kim for their love and support during this difficult time.
Please join the family to Celebrate Don's life, share a few stories and just be together on April 2, 2022 at the Crest Hotel in Prince Rupert between 1-5 p.m. Donations in Dons'memory may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
