In loving memory ~

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charlotte Wessel. Born in Dresden Germany, Charlotte was the second youngest of seven children. Known to many as Lottie she endured many hardships as a young girl and woman but met the love of her life Robert after WW2. She was married to Robert in 1948 in a dress she borrowed from her girlfriend and not ten years later set off with her husband to Canada seeking a better life as did many others during those times.

They arrived in Montreal on a ship in 1957 with little in their pockets but with hope of a bright future and quickly set out finding work, a place to live and learning the languages. Although yearning to return home and missing her family, things improved for Charlotte as time went on. A move to Ottawa in the early 1960's afforded them both their first home. Becoming more comfortable with her English, Charlotte became fully employed in her trade as a stenographer.

Several years later Robert was recruited for a millwright position at Columbia Cellulose in Prince Rupert. It offered a steady paycheque, benefits and more importantly, security. They moved to B.C. in 1967. Charlotte told Robert when she arrived to this moist environment, that she would give it one year. Well the friendliness and comfort of a small community grew on her and she remained until her passing.

Charlotte was an excellent cook making many a fine traditional German dish. As a devoted wife and mother she was considerate, hardworking and selfless for one who had gone through thick and thin. She was predeceased by Robert in 2001 after 54 years of marriage.

In the last months of her life she experienced physical complications and passed away peacefully in the Prince Rupert Hospital. She leaves behind her two sons, George (Susan) of Kelowna B.C. and Steve (Cindy) of Prince Rupert B.C. She was Oma to three grandchildren Eric, Jamie and Lauren whom she so cherished.

Sorrowly missed, Charlotte

will not be forgotten.

Thank you for being you mom.

As per her request there will be no service.

The family would like to thank Dr. Shaw and the entire medical staff who not only cared for her but treated her in the end with such dignity.
