July 2, 1944 - June 3, 2025

Arthur Oscar "Art" Vandette, age 80, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, in Edmonton, Alberta.

Born on July 2, 1944, in Korah (Sault Ste. Marie), Ontario, Art built a life marked by dedication to his work, deep family connections, and a passion for the simple joys of life. Art resided in Prince Rupert B.C. for many years and retired to Port Edward B.C. He spent his career as a skilled pipefitter and served as a lead hand on mill shutdown projects—roles that reflected his strong work ethic and leadership.

Art is lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen Martin Vandette; his sons Jeff Vandette (Sholanda) and Greg Vandette (ex Rose); and his step-sons Matthew Martin (Nancy) and Kristian Martin (ex Aurora). He was a proud grandfather to Ashley Aubin (Kenny), Nathan Vandette, Mackenzie Martin, Jay Martin, Gunnar Martin, Sam Martin, and Ridley Martin. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Mackenzie Aubin and Kenney Jr. Aubin.

He is also survived by his brothers Peter Vandette (Liz) and Maurice Vandette. Art shared many years of family life with his former wife Sandra McClelland, mother of Jeff and Greg.

Art was predeceased by his parents Oscar and Virginia Vandette; and sisters Jean Vandette, Diana Vandette-Sleeman, Jeanette Heino-Vandette, and Jackie Gardner.

A man of many interests, Art found joy in coin and stamp collecting—a hobby that reflected both patience and curiosity. He had a lifelong love for motorcycles and enjoyed the freedom of the open road. Fishing trips and camping adventures were among his favorite pastimes. A devoted fan of the Vancouver Canucks, he followed the team with unwavering loyalty through every season.

Rooted in Christian faith, Art carried himself with strength and compassion throughout his life. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Art's life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Arthur's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
