1934-2021 ~ Alexander Beaumont Weir, of Prince Rupert, BC passed away on Friday March 5th 2021, peacefully at home at the age of 86. Alex was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1934 to Alexander Weir and Rhoda (nee Smith) Weir.
Alex spent his youth in Nova Scotia, where he graduated Dalhousie University in 1959 with a hard earned law degree. Alex and his lifelong best friend, Stu Campbell, took the plunge and headed west by train across Canada to start work in Alberta as lawyers.
There he met the love of his life, Esther (nee Parkes) and a short few months later they were married among family and friends at St. Johns Parish in Edmonton. They truly found a perfect match in each other and lovingly spent 50 years together raising a family and building a beautiful life in Edmonton.
Alex worked as a solicitor to the Alberta Ombudsman for 17 years, followed by work with the Catholic Reporter in Edmonton until he moved to Prince Rupert in 1998.
During his time in Prince Rupert he was employed by the Kitkatla Band as Band manager, and then as a consultant for the Metlakatla Band. After a long life of dedicated service in multiple platforms, he retired at the age of 75 years old.
Sailing was a lifelong passion for Alex and a place where he found great happiness and peace. Alex also loved motor boats and fishing on the ocean (especially with his sons). You could also always be sure he would do his best to never miss a college basketball game, the Toronto Blue Jays or tennis tournaments.
Alex was a man of strong faith and always dedicated to the church and his community.
He was an adoring son, a loving husband, a loyal friend, and a dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Those who met him were better for it. His generosity, big heart, and devotion to everything that mattered to him are something to aspire to. He will be forever missed and loved.
He is survived by sons Patrick Alexander Weir, Michael Kennedy Weir, and daughter Therese Marie Weir; as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren in addition to many other loving family and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Esther.
There will be no service held due to current COVID restrictions. A celebration of life will be held by his immediate family at a later date in one of his favorite places in the world, Jasper AB.
