Two brief power outages put 2,932 BC Hydro customers in the dark in Prince Rupert early Thursday morning.

BC Hydro community relations manager Bob Gammer said in an email the causes originally listed on their website — vandalism and other — were entered incorrectly.

“I have heard back from our line manager responsible for the Prince Rupert area and he advises that there was no vandalism,” Gammer wrote. “The issue was related to two pieces of equipment on the line that weren’t operating correctly leading to a coordination problem. This is an infrequent occurrence.”

For 21 minutes on March 22, BC Hydro reported north of Mount Hays and south of Second Avenue experienced outages, one for 21 minutes and the other for only 12.
