UPDATE: Ramp partially submerged at Fairview Terminal in Prince Rupert

The Prince Rupert Port Authority is responding to a partially sunken ramp at Fairview Terminal.

The Prince Rupert Port Authority is responding to a sunken loading ramp at Fairview Terminal.

The 185-tonne floating roll-on, roll-off ramp, which was used before Fairview was converted from a breakbulk terminal to a container terminal, began sinking on Saturday morning. Although still secured to the shoreline at the north end of the terminal, the ramp is partially underwater after it lost buoyancy due to corrosion of one of its pontoons.

Containment booms were placed around the barge and hydraulic oil was recovered from the ramp. The port authority is working with marine service providers in the community to recover the ramp and related infrastructure.
