RCMP and the Prince Rupert Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex parking garage on Friday morning.

Two more vehicles have been set on fire in Prince Rupert, bringing the total to five over the past several weeks.

"The Prince Rupert Fire Department responded to two different vehicle fires this morning. The first was on 11th Avenue East at 3:51 a.m. It was suspicious in nature and involved a truck being burned. The second call came in at 4:55 a.m. at the Kootenay apartments. It was another fire that was suspicious in nature and did extensive damage to the underside of the building ... the fire department and the RCMP had to evacuate 45 people from the apartment because it did have the potential to run through the building. Fortunately, we were able to do a quick put out and stop it from spreading," explained fire chief Dave McKenzie.

"We cannot say at this time whether there is a link between these two fires or between these and the previous fires ... at this point it seems these are two separate incidents."
