Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the North Coast from March 6-7.

The snow continues to pile on the sidewalks and rooftops in Prince Rupert.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall alert for the North Coast area starting tonight.

The alert warns of up to 8 cm of accumulated snow for the region. The cold unstable flow of air will travel from the Gulf of Alaska, which is expected to reach Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii overnight and continue into Tuesday.

Since the snowfall on Feb. 25, public works staff have dedicated their energies to snow removal duties and put all other projects on hold, said Veronika Stewart, City of Prince Rupert communications manager.

"We have been bringing staff in earlier and keeping them later. The plows come in at 5 a.m. and stay as late as they need to. Basically we're trying to do our best to stay ahead of Mother Nature," she said.
