Sale process for Ridley Terminals Inc. in Prince Rupert has yet to begin

The sale process for Ridley Terminals in Prince Rupert has yet to begin.

It was in December that two federal ministers came to Prince Rupert to announce the government's intention to sell Ridley Terminals, but the sale process itself has yet to begin.

Minister of State for Finance Ted Menzies and Minister of State for Transport Steven Fletcher announced that the Canada Development Investment Corporation  (CDEV) would oversee the sale of the terminal, with  the condition that the company would not be sold to any state-owned companies outside of Canada, but the CDIC confirmed this week there is a long way to go before new ownership takes shape.

"While a number of items have been dealt with to date certain matters still require attention before the launch of the sale process. We will provide further updates as more information is available about the timing of commencement of the sale process," the group said in a statement to potential buyers.

"The Government of Canada and CDEV continue to prepare for the commencement of the sale process and remain committed to initiating and completing a sale process that achieves the Government's stated objective of ensuring best value for Canadian taxpayers from a buyer that will operate the terminal on a long-term, sustainable basis and with open access."

The sale was welcomed by the board of RTI, but Member of Parliament Nathan Cullen and then-MLA Gary Coons came out in opposition to the idea.
