The annual Prince Rupert Guns N Hoses hockey game is returning on March 15, with the city’s RCMP detachment facing off against the fire department for the popular charity game.

The game is held to raise funds for Prince Rupert KidSport, a charity that helps lift financial barriers that often block children in the area from getting involved in sports.

Prince Rupert’s cops, or the guns, will be seeking revenge after last year’s battle resulted in a thrilling 5-4 overtime win for the hoses.

RCMP Const. Brody Hemrich, who also plays for the Prince Rupert Rampage, said he is hoping to see a similar crowd to last year’s matchup when around 800 fans showed up for the fabled rivalry.

“The annual Guns vs Hoses game is an event that we look forward to every year. Win or lose it’s always fun to get together with our community partners and raise money for good causes,” Hemrich said.

“Last year the community showed up in a big way and I have no doubt they will once again pack the Jim [Ciccone Civic Centre] to cheer us all on.”

Last year, the game raised more than $6,000 for the charity KidSport, which ensures kids who need financial support for registration fees or equipment are also able to participate in sports.

Firefighter Marcus Jardim said he is looking forward to the friendly rivalry that is always a family favourite.

“It’s really popular, you get to watch a classic rivalry that has been going on for years now, it’s a good time and a good family event,” Jardim said.

“You get the kids cheering, everyone loves hockey.”

Tickets can be purchased for $10 at Cooks Jewellers, Rupert Cleaners and at the door.

The puck drops at 7 p.m.
