The Prince Rupert Rampage has been eliminated from the Coy Cup after losing to Williams Lake 8 – 6 on Thursday night. Prince Rupert maintained healthy lead for the first two periods of the game, but Williams Lake came roaring back, scoring six times in the third period.

A successful penalty shot by Williams Lake player, Paul Girodat, tied the game 15 minutes into the third period, leading to a ferocious last five minutes where even referees were being knocked off their feet by the near-violent face-offs.

The Rampage tied the game again with a goal by Abel Verde with 2:38 left on the clock, ten seconds later Williams Lake took the lead again. Rupert then pulled goalie Keith Movold for an extra player, only to have Williams Lake score a final goal on the unmanned net with literally one-second left in the game by Willie Sellers.

With Rupert eliminated, Friday’s game will be between Williams Lake and Powell River to decide who will play Kitimat in the final match on Saturday.

Kitimat made it into the finals despite losing to Powell River earlier Thursday evening 5 -3. Kitimat, Powell River and Williams Lake are actually all tied in terms of wins and losses from the round robin. But according to league officials there are formulas that show Kitimat’s averages to be better, so it is insured a spot in the final game.
