Prince Rupert’s school district will be able to do some much needed upgrades after the provinicial government announced it will provide more than $1.7 million in funds to the area.
School District 52 is one of three school districts receiving a piece of the total $5.4 million in funding from the province to improve facilities.
Most of the money — $1,130,000 — will go toward roofing, electrical and boiler upgrades for the Prince Rupert Middle School (PRMS).
“We’re still working with the School District to complete a plan for replacing the school. Until everything is in place, the old school needs to fix its deficiencies in order to keep operating,” North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice said in the press release on March 27.

The district will also get $666,723 from the Annual Facilities Grant for ongoing school maintenance.
