A alleged notorious thief in Prince Rupert was charged with theft from mail and theft under $5,000 on Jan. 8, according to the RCMP.

Following several calls to the Prince Rupert detachment and complaints on social media, 23-year-old Cameron Geoffrey White was arrested by police.

According to the RCMP, White is well known as a petty property thief in Prince Rupert.

RCMP have received numerous suspicious behaviour complaints, along with a reported case of theft from a local business since the start of January.

“The RCMP was very aware of Cameron’s activities throughout the first week of January,” said Const. Brody Hemrich, Prince Rupert RCMP media relations officer.

“Calls made to the detachment as well as public outcry on social media did not go unheard. Multiple front-line police officers combined their efforts to ensure that Cameron was held in custody.”

RCMP said the alleged repeat offender was remanded and will have a future court date for the charges.
