Prince Rupert spending the most on staff in the northwest

The City of Terrace is still spending less money paying its city staff compared to Kitimat and Prince Rupert.

The City of Terrace is still spending less money paying its city staff compared to Kitimat and Prince Rupert. 

In 2010, Terrace spent $6.7 million on wages, benefits and expenses for its staff, while Kitimat spent $8.7 million and Prince Rupert $12.1 million.

There were 17 city employees in Terrace who were paid more than $75,000 per year compared to the 31 in Prince Rupert and the 38 in Kitimat. This took up $1.6 million of Terrace’s wages and benefits,  $2.9 million of Prince Rupert’s wages and $3.9 million of Kitimat’s wages.

Only four of these Terrace positions paid more than $100,000,  compared to the nine in Prince Rupert and 16 in Kitimat.

The top paying job for each city is the job of chief administrative officer, titled municipal manager in Kitimat. Last year, Terrace’s Ron Poole earned $130,708 and filed $6,083 in expenses. Prince Rupert’s Gordon Howie made $144,368 and filed $17,188 in expenses. Kitmat’s Trafford Hall was paid $147,265 and filed $15,759 in expenses. Poole is now working the municipal manager position in Kitimat, starting there July 4.
