On May 31st 2013, Const. Jennifer Collins of the Prince Rupert RCMP Detachment attended Calgary, Alberta where she became the proud recipient of the 2013 Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire Award (IODE) for outstanding community relations.

This recognition stemmed from the extensive work she had done at her previous posting that focused on education and prevention surrounding Violence in Relationships, sexual abuse, and Aboriginal Policing.

In her current post at the Prince Rupert RCMP Detachment, Const. Collins continues to work tirelessly on combating Violence in Relationships and spends a considerable amount of time volunteering with the Kaien Island

Elders Counsel through the Friendship House Society.

As part of being a recipient of this year's award, Const. Collins was presented with a cheque in the amount of $1,000.00 to donate to a charity of her choosing. In addition to this cheque that was presented to Const. Collins, an attendee of the event who had been impressed with her efforts in combating Violence in Relationships, and her work in local Aboriginal communities made a private donation of an additional $100.00. Having volunteered with the Kaien Island Elders Counsel, Const. Collins was aware that the Friendship House Society was currently in the process of fundraising for an annual elder's gathering set to take place in Prince George, making her decision of who would receive the donation an easy one.

RCMP members at many detachments participate in local activities and initiatives in order to build and maintain relationships, creating an environment that fosters tradition, equality and trust, said Const. Matt Ericson, spokesman for the Prince Rupert RCMP Detachment. We are very proud to have Const. Collins as part of our team and community.

On June 6th, 2013, Const. Collins attended the Friendship House Society and presented them with a cheque in the amount of $1,100.00, with the intended purpose of assisting the Friendship House Society with any current or future projects.
