Prince Rupert RCMP locate the body of deceased Terrace man in Union Inlet

Prince Rupert RCMP located the body of a deceased Terrace-area man in Union Inlet over the weekend.

On July 20th, 2012 at approximately 9:19 AM members of the RCMP West Coast Marine Services and Canadian Coast Guard responded to a report of a deceased man being located in Union Inlet along with a partially submerged vessel.

Upon arrival at the scene police located a partially submerged vessel and the body of a deceased man.  This man was identified at Wolfgang Weidner of Terrace, British Columbia. In speaking with Mr. Weidner's friends it appears as though he set out on a two to three day fishing trip to the area in which he was located, and was expected to return the previous night.

"It is with great sadness that we are having to inform the public of this incident, and our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic event", stated Cst. Matt Ericson, spokesman for the Prince Rupert RCMP.

"At this stage of the investigation it appears as though Mr. Weidner was the sole occupant in the vessel and no foul play is suspected".

As this investigation is ongoing, the Prince Rupert RCMP are asking anyone that may have information regarding this incident to contact the Prince Rupert RCMP Detachment at 250-627-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).  Please remember that Crime Stoppers pays cash for information leading to an arrest.  We don't want your name, just your information.
