Prince Rupert RCMP investigate Hays Vale shooting

Prince Rupert RCMP responded to a complaint of an assault at a residence on Hays Vale Drive on Jan. 1.

On Jan. 1, 2015 at approximately 5:25 a.m. members of the Prince Rupert RCMP Detachment responded to a complaint of an assault at a residence on Hays Vale Drive in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

Upon arrival at the scene police were met by several occupants that had been suffering from the effects of what was believed to be bear spray, and one individual that had been shot. In speaking with witnesses, police were advised that there had been a New Year’s Eve party taking place the previous evening. In the early morning hours, two suspects entered into the residence, bear spraying the occupants inside and shooting one individual.

The victim of the shooting was transported to Prince Rupert Regional Hospital to undergo treatment for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Currently this is an active and unfolding investigation, said Const. Matt Ericson, spokesperson for the Prince Rupert RCMP Detachment. While we do not have any suspects in custody, we are confident is stating that this was a targeted event, and there is no indication that the public is at risk.

In order to protect the integrity of this investigation police are not releasing any additional details, however as information becomes available police may update the community.
