After speaking to the Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce in late October, the City of Prince Rupert took their plans for developing the waterfront east of Kwinitsa Station to the public during a Nov. 7 open house.
According to City Planner Zeno Krekic, residents provided plenty of food for thought on how to best proceed with the already outlined development plans.
“It was one of the better meetings related to planning I’ve attended,” said Krekic.
“I got some really good feedback and people had some really great questions. I will be following up with about a dozen or so people for further interviews and meeting… I’m going to take this next month to follow up.”
Unlike the Chamber of Commerce meeting, this open house dealt with more of the analysis done on the proposed plans. Based on the feedback from the public and stakeholders, Krekic will be preparing a report to council and will be presenting it at the Dec. 10 meeting.
“I will be recommending amendments to the Official Community Plan, to the zoning bylaws and to the Cow Bay design guidelines,” said Krekic, noting that what those will look like is still undetermined.
“It’s all a bit of a work in progress, a moving target. I don’t think it will be anything shocking, but there will be subtle changes.”
